melancholy to the scene while also hinting at a history to the objects or locations on display. The application of strong highlights and flashes of colour add a seductive, filmic quality to the images.

Photography plays a strong part in the production and inspiration of my work. I select neutral, communal spaces and place familiar, every-day objects within them which relates to the photographic tradition of mise en scene.

Canvases are un-framed to allow images to continue around the edges. This again ties into to other media such as photography and film with the idea that what is captured on canvas is only a selected area of a larger scene or one of a series of stills.

Artist's Statement (2008/2009)

 

My current series of paintings reflect recent travels in the Far East and China more specifically. The subject of these works references aspects of local culture and my experiences of daily life in an Asian country.
